It all started in 1945. In post-war Italy people got around mostly by bicycle, and it was in that context that Battista Polini, back from the front, opened his own workshop and specialised in building bicycles.

When the first Vespa and Lambretta scooters appeared, still in the 1940s, the company began manufacturing parts for them.
